Today I saw a homeless man feeding his cat cold cuts from a Subway sandwich. "Eat up little guy. I don't know when we're gonna eat again," he kept telling his little companion. I was so moved at this display of selflessness that I asked the man if I could buy him another sandwich so that two bellies could be full.
I felt prompted to share this as a reminder that many of us are a medical or financial disaster away from being cast out on the streets. Food, shelter, income, and healthcare insecurities are very real problems in America. Thus far the only candidate that I've heard to address all 4 of these issues has been Bernie Sanders. How is it that the wealthiest nation on Earth has such gaping disparity?
