I Am Not Proud of this Country

I am not proud of the way the government turns a blind eye to injustice happening all around us. I am not proud of the politicians and leaders spewing racism and hate. I am not proud of the American media, ignoring what really matters to turn our politics into a reality TV show.

However, I am proud of you. This community is so much more than a group of people supporting a candidate. This is community is a sign of change to come, inevitable change. Never before have I seen a group so passionate and motivated as those willing to support Mr. Sanders and what he stands for.

I was too young to vote in 2016, yet I watched people gather in thousands to see and hear Bernie speak. Even then I was moved beyond words at the power Bernie brought to the podium and to the people. It lit a fire under me and inspired me to become politically active. It helped me understand what a wonderful opportunity I have to be able to vote. I know Mr. Sanders has moved so many young people like me to get up and demand change.

So, while I am not proud of this country, I am proud of the direction this community wants to take it in. I believe in this nation so much and I want nothing more than to be able to say that we do truly have 'liberty and Justice for all'. Here, starting in this subreddit, with these people who believe in America, I know it's possible. I am proud to be an American.
