How to Deal with the Sanders Hate-a-palooza on Twitter

When someone opens up any tweet from Bernie or concerning Bernie that is posted here, or anywhere else, it is only a matter a minutes until there are responses from people who could not care less about the content of the tweet, but rather they just want to hate on Bernie. They are there to set off a rhetorical explosive and blow up the tweet or any discussion on Bernie's ideas. They want to get the discussion off of the actual topic of the tweet and on to some inane baseless charges having nothing to do with the tweet. They are rhetorical terrorists. Maybe this goes on for all the other presidential candidates as well–I confess I do not read political tweets otherwise–but I doubt it. If it did, I suspect MSNBC and CNN and NPR and Nate Silver would make a big deal out of it if their favored establishment candidates were getting this hate tsunami on a regular basis.

Rather than get in the sewer and wrestle with these rhetorical bullies, I suggest that those on twitter merely respond to these hate tweets by saying HATER ALERT and link to one or both of these two articles.

Maybe there are other pieces that make the same points or other points even better.

The point is that it seems like we cannot ignore these Bernie hate-grams like we ignore someone who loudly farts at the dinner table, waiting til the stench goes away. We cannot exchange ideas with them and expect a reasoned debate, as that is exactly what is not allowed by the haters. And if we get get in the sewer and hurl insults we demean our movement and join the ranks of haters. That is their goal.

Maybe this will work, or something like it. All I know is that the status quo is not working as far as I can tell.
